Police: Queens man assaulted officer while trying to flee from Valley Stream Macy’s with stolen merchandise

Police say Oswald A. Bryan took several items and hid them in a bag inside a dressing room. Officers and asset protection tried to take him into custody as he attempted to leave the store without paying.

A Queens man is facing multiple charges after he stole items from a Macy’s in Valley Stream and assaulted an officer while attempting to flee the scene.
Police say 51-year-old Oswald A. Bryan entered the store at the Green Acres Mall on Thursday afternoon. He took several items and hid them in a bag inside a dressing room.
Officers and asset protection tried to take him into custody as he attempted to leave the store without paying.
Authorities say Bryan was arrested after a brief struggle. An officer was injured during the arrest and hospitalized for treatment.
Police say Byran now faces charges including assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and petit larceny.
