Police: Teen passenger dies after vehicle careens off LIE in Yaphank

Police say Franklin Eduardo Sajbin, 22, was driving a Jeep eastbound on the LIE near Exit 66 in Yaphank when he struck another vehicle, causing him to hit the guardrail and flip over the embankment, landing on the LIE Service Road.

A teen has died following a crash on the Long Island Expressway Monday afternoon.
Police say Franklin Eduardo Sajbin, 22, was driving a Jeep eastbound on the LIE near Exit 66 in Yaphank when he struck another vehicle, causing him to hit the guardrail and flip over the embankment, landing on the LIE Service Road.
According to police, three family members of Sajbin were in the vehicle, and two were ejected -- 18-year-old Katherine Sajbin, who was sitting in the back, and 40-year-old Violeta Sajbin, who was in the front passenger seat.
Katherine Sajbin was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Franklin Eduardo Sajbin, Violeta Sajbin and Violeta Sajbin's 12-year-old daughter Edith Sajbin were all transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured.
Police closed the LIE near Exit 66 for more the five hours. Traffic was backed up for miles as motorists were diverted to other roadways.
