Mets, Stop & Shop help open new food pantry at Lindenhurst school

A new food pantry is now open at an elementary school in Suffolk County.
The Mets stepped up to the plate to make the day even more special for the students at William Rall Elementary in Lindenhurst.
Retired infielder, Jose Reyes, surprised the kids along with Mr. and Mrs. Met, and the Mets Citi Field Food Truck provided fresh produce for 100 local families.
The event marked a major milestone for the Stop & Shop School Food Pantry Program, opening and supporting its 100th school in New York.
As part of the celebration, Stop & Shop presented a commercial refrigerator and a $10,000 donation to accompany the pantry’s ribbon cutting.
School staff members tell News 12 it will make a big difference, "This isn't just about groceries. It's about investing in the dignity, health and success of our entire Rall community. This space is a judgment free zone, a source of hope that shows we are here for our families both inside and outside our communities."
Since opening its first school food pantry in New York in 2019, Stop & Shop has grown to support 52 schools in New York City, 30 on Long Island, 11 in Westchester, and 7 in the Hudson Valley.
Stop & Shop says those efforts provide access to food for more than 200,000 students and families in the state.
