Police: Woman fatally struck by car in Freeport; driver charged with DWI

According to detectives, Tyshaun M. Johashen was operating a vehicle traveling southbound on Babylon Turnpike in the vicinity of Carroll Street when he struck a female.

Police say a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on Wednesday and a homeless man has been arrested.
According to detectives, Tyshaun M. Johashen, 32, was operating a 2018 Nissan Sentra, traveling southbound on Babylon Turnpike in the vicinity of Carroll Street when he struck Mia Pollidore, 24, of Freeport.
Pollidore suffered severe trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Johashen, who remained at the scene, was intoxicated at the time of the accident and was placed under arrest without incident.
Johashen is charged with vehicular manslaughter, DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
