The Mount Sinai South Nassau Outpatient Dialysis Center in Oceanside is marking 25 years in operation - and it has one patient who has been getting dialysis there for two decades.
Maryann Giovinco has had kidney problems for her whole life.
She told News 12 she was born with “kidney trouble.”
As a result, the 78-year-old Inwood resident has been undergoing dialysis in Oceanside for 20 years.
She goes three days a week, starting around 5 a.m.
Due to health issues, she cannot have a transplant.
Giovinco said she considers the staff at the Mount Sinai South Nassau Outpatient Dialysis Center a “second family.”
She said they make her want to “keep coming.”
Zapora Burillo, director of nursing for dialysis services, said that Giovinco is “so positive and “a good influence to other patients.”
Burillo described Giovinco as one of their “model patients.”
