A man was fatally struck by a car while trying to cross a street Saturday in Hempstead, according to police.

Authorities say the 27-year-old was hit by the vehicle at around 4 p.m. on Front Street.

He was then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
