Police on LI step up patrols ahead of Passover amid rise in antisemitism

Officials are encouraging people to celebrate with their loved ones and feel safe knowing that police are on the job.

Police across Long Island are stepping up patrols in Jewish communities ahead of Passover as antisemitism is on the rise nationwide.
The Anti-Defamation League counted nearly 3,700 antisemitic incidents throughout the United States in 2022 - a 36% increase from the year before with a 10% rise on Long Island.
Rabbis in Nassau and Suffolk counties are calling for peace as they prepare for their traditional Seders to celebrate freedom and liberation.
"With the Seder coming at the same time we celebrate Easter, and the concluding days of Ramadan, that [carries] a universal message," says Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum, of Temple Israel of Lawrence.
