Nassau police are joining with
the Town of North Hempstead to step up safety patrols for Passover.
County and town leaders joined
local rabbis in Great Neck to make the announcement.
Police
say they will be teaming up with the town's Public Safety Department for the
patrols, which will call in any suspicious activity.
The
group cited a recent troubling rise in antisemitism around the nation as one of
the main reasons for the increase.
"These
added measures are a necessary precaution because unfortunately, antisemitism
is still prevalent in our country and across the world, and we need to
remain vigilant and proactive to protect our communities,” says Jennifer
Desena, North Hempstead Town Supervisor.
Passover begins tomorrow at
sundown and lasts through next Thursday.
