A driver faces charges after he allegedly hit a woman and then tried to flee ? only to get held up by witnesses.
Taisha Lee Pomales of Central Islip was leaning on her car in front her new home, when a sport utility vehicle hit her, witnesses say.
?I saw the truck coming towards the car, and my mother flew up in the air and slid on the ground,? says Ciera Pomales, 8.
Pomales says she didn?t break any bones, but can?t move her leg or arm. The driver, 23-year-old Kendy Maldonado of Central Islip, never stopped after he hit Pomales, but soon after crashed his SUV into a parked car, police say. A witness followed Maldonado, and held him after he crashed and waited for police.
?Thank you, whoever it was, thank you,? says Pomales. ?Thank you for not minding your own business this one time.?
Police say Maldonado, who appeared Sunday in First District Court, was driving drunk.
