Police: Driver strikes highway patrol car on LIE; charged with DWI

The sergeant was treated at and released from the hospital. None of the third car's occupants were hurt.

Police say a drunk driver slammed into a Suffolk police sergeant's vehicle early on Sunday morning.
They say Tracy Smith was driving westbound on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 55 when he went off the road and struck a highway patrol car that was parked on the shoulder. He then hit another car on the road.
The sergeant was treated at and released from the hospital. None of the third car's occupants were hurt.
Smith was charged with DWI.
