A Babylon teen has been hospitalized following a hit-and-run crash over the weekend.
Police say Jeremy Shaffer, 15, was hit on West Main Street in Babylon, leaving him with serious injuries. He was riding a bike at the time of the crash.
Jocelin Nunez Martinez then took off, police say, but officers caught up with her a short time later at the corner of Fire Island Avenue and Louis Circle.
Neighbors say they often see drivers not following the rules of the road in an area where there are a lot of kids on bikes.
"The behavior of the drivers could be a lot better," says Richard DiMaggio, of West Babylon. "Sometimes you come down one day and it seems everyone is driving like a maniac."
Nunez Martinez has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a forged instrument - which police say was a forged temporary registration, as well as multiple summonses for traffic violations.
