One person was shot on a Long Island Rail Road train in Bellport this morning, a source tells News 12.
The incident happened around 2:25 a.m.
The source said three to four suspects, believed to be male youths, exited the eastbound train at the Bellport station and fled, while the victim, who was shot once in the shoulder, continued one more stop to the Mastic-Shirley station.
The victim was treated there and taken to NYU Langone Hospital - Suffolk in Patchogue, where they are in stable condition.
The MTA police is leading the investigation and had scenes at both stations.
Officers at Mastic-Shirley were seen walking on the platform and down the tracks towards a train that was off to the side. Detectives at Bellport were using dogs to search the ground along the tracks and underneath the platform.
The MTA has not yet released information.
The incident initially suspended service on the Montauk Branch between Speonk and Patchogue ahead of the morning rush, but trains slowly got back online with delays throughout the morning.
The MTA warned riders to expect delays and cancellations.
The investigation is ongoing.
