A local Girl Scout troop is helping families in need with support from local firefighters.
Girl Scout Troop 3112 set up outside Stop & Shop in Farmingdale to collect food and monetary donations for those in need. Members of the South Farmingdale Fire Department also helped with the drive.
"It’s important for us because we are giving food to the homeless. We are making sure they have food for Thanksgiving and they are safe," said Ryan Farrelly of Girl Scout Junior Troop 3112.
According to the South Farmingdale Fire Department, the donations will go to Island Harvest, which will then help stock the food pantry at Powered By Christ Church in Massapequa.
