A man has been arrested after police say he broke into and lived in a Hampton Bays home while the owner was away.
Southampton police say they received a call to a residence on Aug. 27 and found a broken window and an unlocked door. The residents had been gone for a few days and discovered the damage when they returned.
On Sept. 3, police responded to the same home when the homeowner reported that someone was using the outdoor outlet to charge their phone. Police say they identified the subject from both incidents as Nelson Juarez Nunez.
The 24-year-old undomiciled man was then arrested by officers on Sept. 4, according to police. Nunez is charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, illegal use of telecommunications without paying, and a town code violation open/consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Southampton Town Police at 631-728-3400.
