Five people were arrested after drugs were allegedly being sold near an apartment complex in Riverhead.
Police say the investigation began when they got several complaints about drug deals happening at Peconic Crossing on West Main Street.
The arrests come following a two-month investigation involving police and the district attorney’s office. The suspect range in age from 49 to 20 years old.
Employees at several businesses around the complex say it has been an ongoing problem for years and are pleased to see police taking action.
“I’m very fortunate to be in a neighborhood where is a police force that’s willing to step up actually and do something,” says Samuel Wolf, an employee at Music and Arts.
Some of the charges include possessing illegal marijuana and selling it, as well as tampering with evidence.
Police say several of the defendants have criminal records. Anyone with further information is asked to call investigators.
