Two teenagers from Syosset have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 14-year-old's purse in broad daylight.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon on Westbury Avenue. Police say Gregorio Garcia and Mario Mayancela, both 16, dragged the victim along the sidewalk until the strap on her purse broke. They say the pair then fled the scene.
Officials say an eyewitness tried to chase the suspects down and called police. The teens were arrested a short time later.
Employees at a neighboring market say the attack was also caught on the store's security cameras. They say the girl is a regular customer and that she returned Saturday in high spirits.
Garcia and Mayancela are being tried as adults. They were arraigned on robbery charges Saturday morning.
