Shark spotted off Lido Beach, prompting red flag at four South Shore beaches
The shark was first spotted at Lido Beach around 11 a.m. and then again at Point Lookout. Those beaches are now red-flagged along with Malibu and Nickerson.

A shark observed in the waters off of Lido Beach has red flagged four Hempstead beaches on Thursday.
The shark was first spotted at Lido Beach around 11 a.m. and then again at Point Lookout. Those beaches are now red-flagged along with Malibu and Nickerson.
Swimming is suspended for at least an hour and swimmers can return if the shark isn't spotted again, town officials say.
If a shark is spotted, another hour will be tacked on, per state regulations.
