It's been a terrifying week at New York City schools as three separate students were involved in knife fights-- all of them ending bloody.
The latest one happened in the Melrose section of the Bronx yesterday morning at the New York City Charter High School for Architecture, Engineering and Construction Industries (AECI). Police say two 15-year-old boys, both in the ninth grade, were involved in a play fight gone wrong.
News 12 is told one of the teens is being charged for assault after slashing the other in the face with a box cutter, leaving him hospitalized with a cut on his cheek going from his lip to his eye.
"So, I know at least the school is doing what they have to do to keep the kids safe," said Jason Acosta. When dropping his son off at school this morning he said, " I just told [my son] to be safe. Don't play around with anybody because that's when stuff like that happens."
In light of this new safety precaution, the police told News 12 this charter school doesn’t actually identify as a scanning school but rather one that scans at random.
News 12 reached out to the school's administration for a response on this incident and is still waiting to hear back.
