Police say one man is dead and another is injured after a shooting North Amityville.
Police say they got a call about a shooting just after 2 a.m. on Glenmalure Street and Brandon Avenue.
According to officials, investigators found one man dead while the other was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It's not clear if there are any suspects or arrests.
Police have deployed a special unit to probe firearms crimes in the area, which have seen an uptick since the summer.
"The FAST team is specifically designed to enhance patrols and investigations of firearm violence," says Acting Commissioner Tim Sini.
Presiding Officer Duwayne Gregory, of the Suffolk County Legislature, says community intervention is needed.
"The community is always worried when an incident like this occurs," he says. "We are working with local leaders in the community to stem the violence that has occurred today and in the past. We are meeting with clergy leaders to come up with solutions to address the problem of guns and gun violence in the community."
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
