Paterson leaders announced a partnership with the Department of Environmental Protection to work toward redeveloping industrial sites.

The program, called the Community Collaborative Initiative, plans to treat contaminated industrial sites called brownfields.

DEP Commissioner Catherine McCabe says it's important that the community gets involved with the renovations too. "We start with cleaning up the brownfield sites, but you can't just stop there. What's really important is to reinvigorate and revitalize and to find new uses and those have to be uses that are important to the community. And who has the best ideas for how to do that? The community," she says.

Hinchliffe Stadium is one of the sites set to get revamped.
