Brett Lawrence, of Kings Park, got a new backyard, thanks to volunteers from The Home Depot and Paws of War.

"For Paws of War and The Home Depot to come and do this, it's the best gift I could have gotten," says Lawrence.

A fire damaged the disabled veteran's home back in February.

He also lost two dogs in the fire.

"When we found out about Brett's story, we felt the need to help him get back on his feet," says Ryan Haugstatter, of Paws of War.

The Suffolk County father recently adopted two service animals.

Paws of War has agreed to train them to become Lawrence's service dogs.
