A suspect was shot by officers in Bay Shore following an attempted arrest and then a pursuit, police say.

Officials say that police were conducting a confidential investigation in Bohemia and tried to arrest 33-year-old Brandon Scanlon, of Middle Island. The suspect fled in a minivan, knocking over an officer in the process.

Police say they chased Scanlon from Bohemia to Brentwood where gunfire was exchanged between officers and the suspect.

Scanlon was shot in Bay Shore and then crashed into a tree on the North Service Road of Sunrise Highway, just east of Robert Moses at around 7:20 p.m.

Scanlon was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Police say five officers were also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

A ghost gun was pulled from Scanlon vehicle. Scanlon is now facing drug and weapons charges.
