With the New Year comes changes that Gov. Andrew Cuomo calls economic justice.
Gov. Cuomo was on Long Island Sunday vowing that 2018 will be a year of change for working families in New York.
Paid Family Leave officially starts today and will cover the birth or adoption of a child, caring for a sick family member or when a spouse or child goes on active military service abroad.
When fully phased in, New York residents will be eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid time off.
"We're going to turn it around, and we're going to turn it around in the state of New York," says Gov. Cuomo.
Also, minimum wage workers on Long Island have also gotten a raise.
The wage has gone from $10 to $11 an hour.
Fast food workers got an even bigger increase with up to $11.75 an hour.
