Long Islanders spent much of the morning and afternoon digging their cars out after the snowstorm.
Officials are warning residents to be careful while plowing and shoveling.
Suffolk officials say one person died of a heart attack while shoveling in the area, and another lost a finger while clearing a snowblower.
A doctor with Syosset Hospital says about 100 people every year die across the U.S. from shoveling snow.
"The lifting of the snow actually increases heart rate and blood pressure. And then you also have the compounded effect of being out in cold air. Cold air has an effect on the heart also, so it's a perfect storm," said Dr. Randolph P. DiLorenzo.
Here are some tips to stay safe while shoveling: stretch beforehand like you would before exercising; do not overexert yourself; take breaks; drink water; and help neighbors with disabilities or who are senior citizens.
