The NYPD officer who was killed on the Long Island Expressway in Queens earlier this week will be laid to rest next week.
Police say Jessica Beauvais, of Hempstead, was high and drunk when she slammed into Highway Officer Anastasios Tsakos while he was directing traffic at a crash site Tuesday.
Tsakos was a 14-year veteran of the NYPD. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
The East Northport-Greenlawn community has now lost two fathers who were both NYPD officers. NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuzzolo, of Greenlawn, was shot and killed responding to a domestic incident in the Bronx in 2016.
A wake for Tsakos will be held Monday in Greenlawn.
His funeral will take place Tuesday at Northport Rural Cemetery.
Tsakos' funeral coincides with the Greek Orthodox Easter celebrations. Members of the church says Sunday would have been name day for Tsakos - a special day in the Greek Orthodox religion.
A court conference is expected Friday in the case against Beauvais, who is being held without bail.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $138,000 for Tsakos' family. Another fund has raised nearly $60,000.
