A Long Island nonprofit is preparing for its annual "Community Day" that provides backpacks filled with school supplies to students - and is asking for help from the community.
"Costs are up across the board and requests for help are up across the board," said Keith Scott, CEO of Pronto of Long Island.
The nonprofit acts as a community resource hub and helps people get out of poverty and give them a leg up in life.
Scott says that it seems like almost everyone could use a little help lately.
"School supply requests are up. Requests for food are up. Requests for services are up," he says.
"Community Day" is scheduled to take place on Aug. 23.
The nonprofit says it has a few hundreds backpacks ready to be distributed but is in need of more. The goal is to reach 1,200 backpacks by "Community Day."
