If an active shooter walks into one of Nassau County’s many houses of worship, police can be alerted at the press of a button via the “Rave” app.
It's the same app used in schools.
The Nassau County Police Department’s “house of worship desk” is staffed each day.
When the desk receives an alert, police will spring into action.
They’re able to view inside many of Nassau’s religious sites because they’re already connected to the cameras.
Officials say they hope to soon be able to use self-deploying drones.
Dan Plaut is security chair at Congregation Beth Sholom of Lawrence.
He said his “biggest fear” is terrorism attacking his house of worship and said Nassau’s technology is “amazing” and “cutting edge.”
