A group of special needs children learned a lesson Saturday in what it takes to patrol the county's streets.
Sgt. Richard Lebrun says 30 students from their Police Athletic League Special Needs Unit completed an obstacle course at Massapequa Park. The kids also got a visit from the Nassau County Mounted Unit and were able to pet the horses.
Police officers say they want the children to realize that by believing in themselves, anything is possible.
The program costs $5,000 to fund. It is paid for through the Nassau County Police Department Foundation.
