A bill before the Nassau County Legislature would punish homeowners who allow minors to consume alcohol on their property.
Supporters said the "Social Host Law" is aimed at curbing underage drinking and alcohol-related accidents.
"Even if you don't provide the alcohol and you allow them to consume alcohol on your premises, you will be fined," Legis. David Mejias (D-Farmingdale) said, "you will be punished."
On first offense, adults would be fined $250. The penalty would increase to $500 if caught a second time, and a third strike carries a $1,000 fine or up to one year in prison.
Long Beach, Glen Cove and Amityville have already passed similar ordinances.
A committee hearing on the bill is scheduled for June 4.Related Information: MADD MADD Programs SADD DEDICATEDD
