More than 160 girls took the mat this weekend to battle for the Nassau County wrestling title.
They competed at Long Beach High School, for a chance to head to Albany for the state championships.
One competitor tells News 12 what it means to break barriers in the sport.
“Everyone says it’s a male-dominated sport, but honestly females are also coming into the sport, and making the sport alive,” says Brianna Marquez, of Uniondale, one of the event’s 13 champions.
Eight Nassau schools will be represented at the state championships later this month.
