A fare hike is among the proposals to increase revenue that Metropolitan Transportation Authority board members will receive at their budget meeting Wednesday.
The MTA, which oversees the subway, Long Island Rail Road and Long Island Bus, will be presented with several options, including increasing passenger ticket prices.
According to the proposal, single ticket purchases would not be affected. However, charges for discount packages, which include weekly and monthly passes, could rise.
News 12 Long Island approached many commuters about the potential for rising costs. If the increase was not terribly high and services were subsequently improved, the general consensus was that a fare hike would be alright.
Multiple public hearings would be required before the approval of any fare increase. The board would vote on such a proposal in December.
