WEDNESDAY: A windy Tuesday evening and night is on tap, with gusts approaching 40 mph. This cold Canadian wind will bring back a frigid feel to the borough into Wednesday morning. Feels-like temperatures will tumble down to the teens with actual lows in the mid-20s. Make sure to have the heavier winter attire handy Wednesday.
Clouds increase through the day Wednesday with temperatures struggling to reach the freezing mark. It remains dry thanks to the cold Canadian wind. Wednesday's dry air could cut into Thursday morning's storm at the beginning.
THURSDAY: Light snow or sleet showers are possible as soon as about 3 a.m. but the dry air will eat into the initial bands of wintry weather. The brunt of the storm quickly picks up after 6 a.m. with a burst of heavy snow or sleet likely by 7 a.m. Depending on the exact track and intensity, this could mean a light glaze of ice forms on untreated surfaces during the heart of the morning commute. It only takes a tiny amount to stick to create dangerous conditions.
Eventually the snow and ice will change over to rain by 10 a.m., ending as a brief round of plain rain through about noon. An inch or two of slushy snow is possible before transitioning to the light glaze of freezing rain and then plain rain to end. The poor timing could cause significant impacts to the morning commute.
STAY TUNED: You will want to stay tuned not only for this storm, but for the next several storms that loom afterward. A similar setup with a wintry mix is possible Saturday into early Sunday, and a snowier setup is possible next Tuesday night into Wednesday. This weekend's storm could have more snow at the beginning before the wintry mix, and next week's storm could be all snow. More details about this weekend's storm will be known once Thursday's storm moves out.
