As parts of the country try to make decisions about the upcoming school year, about two-thirds of states are seeing coronavirus cases climb.
At least 35 states are seeing a rise in week-to-week new cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.
That includes the more than 15,000 infections reported in Florida on Saturday, setting a single day record.
"We're going to have to start moving regular beds into ICU beds, so we're clearly being strained at this point," says Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber.
In addition to Florida, Texas and California are seeing a major surge in cases.
In the middle of the crisis, President Donald Trump and some White House officials are questioning Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the administration's Coronavirus Task Force.
"Dr. Fauci is the most respected voice in the country on how we ought to be dealing with this pandemic. And to be trying to sideline him, or diminish him, or discredit him is just atrocious," says California Rep. Adam Schiff.
Fauci is among the health officials who is still stressing the importance of facial coverings. President Trump made his first public appearance with a mask Saturday during a visit to Walter Reed Medical Center.
