The term 'reduce, reuse and recycle' is often used over and over. But did you know these three steps are easier to put into place at home than you think? News 12 Long Island's Elizabeth Hashagen has tips to recycle to end this year's Month of Green series.
Whenever a package is shipped, it is often filled with Styrofoam and wrapped in plastic. But you don't have to toss it all in the garbage. Most of the local UPS stores will take back the packaging material, thus reducing your carbon footprint on the planet.
Don't know what to do with your old eyeglasses? Don't toss them! Your local Lions Club collects eyeglasses to help those who can't afford new ones. Often, there is a donation box at your local library.
Kids play sports? Some shops, like Play It Again Sports, lets you turn in used gear for either cash or store credit. Take a look around and get something gently used in your child's current size.
You may use a reusable lunch bag, but why not take it a step further and use a reusable snack or sandwich bag. Stasher Bags are reusable for at least three years and can be frozen or put in the dishwasher. You can even write a message to your loved one with a dry eraser.
