A teacher has been arrested following a security concern that prompted officials to close all schools in the Montclair School District today.
According to a notice posted to the district's website, a threat was received and reported to local police.
"Late yesterday evening, we were made aware of a potential threat to our district. Upon receiving this information, we immediately contacted the Montclair Police Department and have been closely following their guidance," interim Superintendent Damen G. Cooper said in a message on the district's homepage.
The Montclair Police Department said that it worked in collaboration with the Montclair Board of Education, The Essex County Prosecutors Office and the FBI, throughout the night to identify the source of the threat.
As a result of the investigation, the suspect was identified by police as 45-year-old Amir Doctry, a district teacher. Doctry was arrested and charged with terroristic threats with additional charges pending, police say.
Montclair Mayor Renee Baskerville released a statement saying, in part, "Please know that there is no active threat to children or families in Montclair at this time. An active investigation is underway and every precautionary measure is being taken to assure the safety of our community."
Police say there is no further danger to the community.
