Sgt. Norberto Flores showed text messages between Pollina and her ex-fiancee Michael Valva.
Some of the texts showed Pollina saying she would not be letting Thomas Valva and his brother back into the home from the garage where they were sleeping. The messages correlated with videos that showed Thomas Valva or his brother sleeping in the garage or a tent in the backyard.
Dr. Michael Caplan, who performed the autopsy on Thomas Valva, believes that hypothermia was the cause of death. He showed a photo of the child before he died and said he had been hypothermic at other points before his death, as seen by his red hands.
Pollina has pleaded not guilty to all charges. She will be called to the stand after the prosecutors are finished calling their witnesses.
Defense attorney Matthew Tuohy says that Pollina could be giving her testimony as soon as Tuesday.
"What she did is that she brought blankets, she brought a heater and she tried to help out," Tuohy says. "It was the father's acts from the beginning to the end, which caused his death."
