One of Mayor Eric Adams’ former aides is now pleading guilty for illegally soliciting donations for the mayor’s campaign.
Mohamed Bahi, was the mayor’s aide formerly serving as City Hall’s chief liaison to the Muslim community.
News 12 has learned he pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday, admitting he helped solicit illegal donations for Adams’ campaign.
Court documents show it took place in December of 2020 soliciting donations from employees of a Brooklyn construction company.
In court, Bahi said he knew the campaign would "seek matching funds for those donations," adding he knew those employees would then be reimbursed.
The case is tied to several corruption charges against Mayor Eric Adams.
Bahi was charged in October for witness tampering and destroying evidence.
The case ended up being dropped in February.
Bahi will be sentenced on Nov. 17 on one charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
He faces up to five years in prison.
