Mostly dry week for Long Island, but beneficial rain is needed soon

As many Long Islanders head back to school this week, expect mostly cool and dry mornings with afternoon high temperatures mostly in the mid to upper 70s and a mix of sun and clouds.

Remember, most lifeguards are no longer on duty at our local beaches. For boating, conditions will be good on the ocean and Long Island Sound.
There is a rain shower chance Friday and Saturday, but at this point — it looks pretty limited for Long Island. We are not officially in a drought yet, but we will be soon if we do not see beneficial rain over the next week or two. Updates on our local drought monitor come in Thursday mornings.
TODAY: Sun and clouds. Nice. Highs around 75. UV Index: 7 (high). BOATERS: No advisories.
TONIGHT: Mainly clear to partly cloudy and cool. Lows around 57.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs around 77. Lows around 59.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny to start with clouds gradually increasing late in the afternoon and evening. Highs around 77. Lows near 64.
FRIDAY: Sun and clouds. A few showers. Warm and more humid. Highs around 79. Lows near 65.
SATURDAY: Sun and clouds. Chance for a couple of spotty showers. Mostly dry. Highs around 80. Lows near 60.
SUNDAY: Sun and clouds. Highs around 76. Lows near 57.
