After careful consideration, a special committee recommended Monday the Plainview School District keep its controversial middle school math curriculum.
The committee advised the school board to continue using the program Investigations, which was first introduced five years ago. The Investigations curriculum utilizes an alternative teaching technique that emphasizes conceptual learning while teaching math. Despite its conclusion, the math committee said new textbooks, workbooks and homework material should be purchased.
School board members have not yet decided whether to keep the math curriculum. Parents expressed mixed reviews of Investigations. While some said they are satisfied with it, others point to drooping state math exam scores as proof it isn't working.
