Town of Oyster Bay officials urged residents to be aware of dangerous conditions on the roadways due to black ice in the aftermath of Friday night's snowstorm.

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino said Saturday night crews worked all day plowing the roads and put down an "enormous amount of salt" on them.

Saladino, however, pointed out that snow that melted throughout the day froze during the evening hours. This created dangerous conditions on the roadways.

He urged residents to stay home, and if they headed out the road, to drive with caution. He advised to residents leave plenty of room between their vehicles and other ones on the road.

Saladino also asked residents to clean off any snow that may be on the roof of their vehicles because they can become "projectiles" as they head out on the roadways on Sunday.

Saladino said the impacts of the snowstorm "are not over yet."
