Nassau Executive Ed Mangano says he opposes a bill that would block the county from ever reviving school zone speed cameras in the future.
Mangano told Newsday that the legislature should allow more conversation on the issue.
Nassau County lawmakers announced their decision to repeal school speed zone cameras in December.
As News 12 has reported, Mangano had repeatedly said the speed zone cameras were all about safety. However, some residents call the cameras "scam cams," and say they were about money and not kids' safety.
The school zone camera initiative was stopped before making it to Suffolk County. Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone says he has no plans to roll it out.
