Police say they have arrested a man for DWI after a three-car crash in Merrick.
According to police, officers responded to an accident on Merrick Road around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.
Witnesses told police that a male wearing a black sweatshirt with dark, shoulder-length hair had fled the scene on foot.
Officers searched the area and stopped a male fitting the description on Alice and Beach streets.
According to police, the suspect was observed to have a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his breath and he was unsteady on his feet.
Police identified the suspect as Anthony Assabi, 30. He was placed under arrest after a witness gave a positive identification.
Assabi is being charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
