Crews work to repair sinkhole on LIE in Melville; 2 lanes remain closed

Crews are working to repair a massive sinkhole that emerged Thursday on the Long Island Expressway in Melville.

The sinkhole is ten feet wide and eight feet deep. It opened underneath drivers at Exit 49 in the westbound lanes.

One car got stuck in the opening, while another vehicle sustained major damage.

Two lanes remain closed. DOT officials say they hope to have them reopened sometime today.
