Before making chocolate, Steve Amaral traveled the world as a corporate chef. He wanted to indulge in something new, so in 2012, he and his wife Ann started North Fork Chocolate Company. They learned at home how to make chocolate.
"We import from Ecuador and Sir Lanka; we use a lot of Belgian chocolate," said Steve. "We make everything here and ship it to our Mattituck store and wholesalers." You can find their desserts in several restaurants and supermarkets like King Kullen and Wild by Nature.
They also serve breakfast and lunch options at their Riverhead location and they have a storefront location in Mattituck. Steve says the best part about the business is being on the East End. "I grew up on a farm in Massachusetts, outside of Plymouth. It was a chicken farm with my grandpa, so it reminds me of being out there."
