The heat didn’t stop yogis from entering the hot yoga room at Bikram Yoga Roslyn, where the temperature is 106 degrees.
Owner Jamie Weil, who’s also a teacher at the studio, said the benefits of doing Bikram yoga are the same whether it’s hot outside or not.
He said the heat just helps you to sweat a little bit more and eliminate toxins.
For volunteer firefighters, the hot temperatures can make tough situations even more difficult.
Each volunteer has about 50 pounds of extra weight as a result of the gear necessary to respond to a fire.
Nassau County Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro said that on a normal day firefighters can get overheated, so when there's a heat index over 100 degrees and high humidity, it becomes that much more difficult.
