Three Long Island communities have landed on New York's list of so-called "coronavirus hot spots" as cases have increased in the state.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a list of 20 ZIP codes from across New York that he says contain clusters of positive COVID-19 cases. The three on the Island are 11746 in the Dix Hills areas, 11717 in Brentwood and 11580, which includes parts of Valley Stream and Franklin Square.
Cuomo says the overall infection rate in the state has been below 1% for well over a month. Of those tested in one part of Rockland County, 17% tested positive. In another part of that county, 14% tested positive.
But the figures are much less concerning on Long Island. Both locations in Suffolk have a 3% infection rate with four to five cases, and the Nassau ZIP is also at 3% with four cases.
