School districts across Long Island are participating in a letter-writing campaign pleading with Albany for more school funding.
Jim Kaden, of the Nassau-Suffolk School Board Association, says that Long Island educates 26 percent of the state?s students, but only receives 19 percent of the funding. Officials say sports programs and after school activities will be in jeopardy if schools do not get more money.
Assemblywoman Patricia Eddington (D-Patchogue), who will deliver the 7,400 handwritten letters to Albany, blames the governor. Eddington says he has been cutting education funding for the last 12 years.
