Police have identified the person who set himself on fire outside the Trump trial in Manhattan as 37-year-old Max Azzarello.
News 12 has confirmed that Azzarello grew up in Sea Cliff, on Nassau County’s North Shore.
Azzarello was most recently living in St. Augustine, Florida, but neighbors in Sea Cliff remember him and his family.
“The whole neighborhood is in shock,” said Jane McGilloway, who lives next door to the family’s former home.
McGilloway said, We can’t believe it because we knew him as a little boy.”
The self-described “investigative researcher” posted an online manifesto with conspiracy theories claiming the government was about to start an “apocalyptic fascist world coup.”
Police say Azzarello threw pamphlets in the air, doused himself with a liquid and set himself on fire.
Officials say he is in critical condition.
