Police responded to Smith Point Beach in Shirley Saturday where beachgoers said there was a stabbing.
Suffolk County police had not confirmed as of Saturday night what multiple witnesses said was a fight that broke out around 6 p.m. and later appeared to be a stabbing.
A News 12 crew on the scene observed first responders helping the person who appeared to be the victim.
Witnesses said a helicopter arrived shortly after to rush the victim to a hospital.
The severity of the victim's injuries were not immediately known.
Witnesses also said a person who appeared to be the attacker tried to get away.
"Probably he was fighting with someone, but the police came...and they then pulled him back to the ground because the guy was trying to run," said Angel Guzman, an eyewitness.
Police had not either confirmed if any arrests were made. However, witnesses told News 12 as many as seven kids were separated when police arrived on scene.
