This holiday weekend is that start of Long Island’s beach season.
Lifeguards go on duty beginning this weekend at Jones Beach, Robert Moses, Sunken Meadow and Hither Hills - and those are just the state parks.
You’ll also see lifeguards in the chairs at Town of Hempstead Beaches as well.
For those who aren’t fans of lounging in the sun, Long Island has plenty of other things to offer.
George Gorman, New York State Parks regional director, Long Island, suggests heading to picnic parks, golfing parks, arboretums, preserves and historic sites.
"There’s so much out there where people can get out and enjoy and have great time," he says.
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin said they're expecting "huge crowds" this summer and is hoping the weather cooperates.
